چکیده

Considerable interest has been centered on Ashbya gossypii recently because of its ability to synthesize large quantities of riboflavin. The work of Wickerham, Flickinger, and Johnson (1946) called attention to the potential industrial significance of certain strains for the manufacture of riboflavin. During the course of studies on the synthesis of riboflavin it became of importance to leam something about the physiological behavior of the organism. This commuinication is concerned with the metabolism of glucose by a culture of A. gossypii.

Utilization of xylose by engineered strains of Ashbya gossypii for the production of microbial oils

BACKGROUND Ashbya gossypii is a filamentous fungus that is currently exploited for the industrial production of riboflavin. The utilization of A. gossypii as a microbial biocatalyst is further supported by its ability to grow in low-cost feedstocks, inexpensive downstream processing and the availability of an ease to use molecular toolbox for genetic and genomic modifications. Consequently, A. ...

High-level expression of Aspergillus niger b-galactosidase in Ashbya gossypii.

Ashbya gossypii has been recently considered as a host for the expression of recombinant proteins. The production levels achieved thus far were similar to those obtained with Saccharomyces cerevisiae for the same proteins. Here, the b-galactosidase from Aspergillus niger was successfully expressed and secreted by A. gossypii from 2-mm plasmids carrying the native signal sequence at higher level...

Molecular and functional characterization of an invertase secreted by Ashbya gossypii.

The repertoire of hydrolytic enzymes natively secreted by the filamentous fungus Ashbya (Eremothecium) gossypii has been poorly explored. Here, an invertase secreted by this flavinogenic fungus was for the first time molecularly and functionally characterized. Invertase activity was detected in A. gossypii culture supernatants and cell-associated fractions. Extracellular invertase migrated in a...

Nutritional requirements and strain heterogeneity in Ashbya gossypii.

Colony radial growth rates and specific growth rates of three related Ashbya gossypii strains ATCC10895, IMI31268, MUCL29450 and an unrelated strain, CBS109.26, were measured on various carbon and nitrogen sources at pH 4.5 and pH 6.5 to elucidate physiological growth requirements and strain differences. All strains grew on yeast extract or ammonium as nitrogen sources, but not on nitrate. Subs...

Engineering Ashbya gossypii strains for de novo lipid production using industrial by‐products

Ashbya gossypii is a filamentous fungus that naturally overproduces riboflavin, and it is currently exploited for the industrial production of this vitamin. The utilization of A. gossypii for biotechnological applications presents important advantages such as the utilization of low-cost culture media, inexpensive downstream processing and a wide range of molecular tools for genetic manipulation...
